After an unsatisfactory performance of Pakistan team in the initial matches of World Cup 2019 which caused them a spot in the semi-finals of the tournament, there were speculations that a lot of changes in both the management and the team itself will be made.
One of the biggest changes in the team management came today when former Pakistan captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq resigned from his post as the Chief Selector of Pakistan Cricket team.
The announcement was made by the cricketer at a press conference an hour ago in Lahore. The 49-year-old told in the press conference that he had already met with the chairman of PCB and MD Wasim Khan after the world cup and that during their discussion he revealed his desire to discontinue working as the head of selection committee of the team.
Inzamam has also said that if any other opportunity is presented by the PCB, he will definitely consider it.
Is Imam-Ul-Haq in Trouble?
Inzamam was widely criticized of nepotism when during his tenure as Chief Selector, he had added Imam-ul-Haq, his nephew in the team. Despite Imam has a good record in ODI, he failed to impress in the World Cup which only strengthened the claims.
Now many are believing that Imam-Ul-Haq will also have trouble staying in the team after Pakistan’s exit in the World Cup. Head Coach Mickey Arther may also be removed from his post in the coming weeks.
Pakistan Team Performance Under Inzamam-Ul-Haq
Inzamam-Ul-Haq became the chief selector of Pakistan Cricket Team in 2016 after he quit his position as the head coach of Team Afghanistan. Since then, Pakistan has won 7 out of 18 ODI series including ICC Champions Trophy in 2017.
