Former team captain and the current Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan tops the International Cricket Council’s poll as the best captain.
#PakistanShocksIndia is the top trending hashtag at Twitter Pakistan right now. Because ICC – International Cricket Council ran a poll last night asking netizens to vote for the best cricketing giant and guess what? Pakistan’s 1992 WorldCup winning captain and PM Imran Khan topped the poll with 47% of votes succeeded by India’s run-machine Virat Kohli with 46% votes.
ICC on Tuesday launched a poll on Twitter asking fans to identify which captain was the best. The options given by the ICC included current India captain Virat Kholi, former South African captain AB de Villiers, current captain of Australia’s women Team Meg Lanning and former Pakistan team captain Imran Khan.
In this poll, more than 500,000 people expressed their views and 47% voted in favor of Imran Khan. The most interesting thing during this period was the spat between Pakistani and Indian users on social media.
When polling began yesterday, former Pakistan captain Imran Khan had a clear lead of 49 per cent, but gradually the votes of the current Indian captain Virat Kohli increased.
The last-minute contest was thrilling, with Virat Kohli leading by one per cent until 17 minutes before polling ended. But just as Javed Miandad hit a six off the last ball in Sharjah to give Pakistan a win over India, so too in a dramatic way, Imran Khan’s fans put their weight behind the vote.
After this victory, apart from the users, Imran Khan’s own ministers and members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party also appeared on Twitter and started chanting in praise of their leader on the basis of this ICC poll.
