Barrister Gohar Ali Khan is a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the nominee for the caretaker chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the ruling party of the country. He was chosen by the former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, who stepped down from the party leadership after losing a vote of no confidence in April 2022.

Background
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan belongs to the district of Buner in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and has a political background. He was previously a member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and contested the 2008 general elections from NA-28 Buner. However, he did not win the seat and remained away from active politics for a long time. He focused on his legal career and represented various political parties and personalities in the courts.
Education
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan completed his LLB from the University of Wolverhampton in the UK and his LLM from the Washington College of Law in the US. He has also done a diploma in international human rights law from the American University in Cairo.

Legal Career and Activism
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has worked under the direct supervision of senior lawyer and politician Aitzaz Ahsan. He was also part of the lawyers’ movement in 2007 that demanded the restoration of the judiciary. Lawyer’s movement started after the former military ruler Pervez Musharraf sacked the chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. He assisted Aitzaz Ahsan in the case for the reinstatement of the chief justice. However, he did not take part in the lawyers’ politics and remained neutral.
Imran Khan’s Legal Team
Barrister Gohar is one of the most important member of Imran Khan’s legal team for the past one year. He is focal person for the party’s legal affairs and has appeared in several cases involving the party and its leadership. He has defended Imran Khan in the cases of terrorism, corruption, contempt of court and others.

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan will be the caretaker chairman of PTI until the party holds its intra-party elections on December 2 this year.
